Vaja Leather Case (English) - Mobile Technology

Let me start by saying that I am lover of the simple things. I like simple black leather, with no logos or decorations or changes of colour on my case… or so I thought.
The wait at the post office where I picked up my parcel was truly killing me… however after those long 3 minutes I was back in my car, at 60mph (with no GPS unit, I was going to receive that the day after) rushing back home to open up my parcel which I had finally tracked down after 2 frustrating days.
There I was, sitting in front of it. As I opened the parcel, a very elegant and contemporary looking carton box introduced me to Vaja’s cases mistery: How come the retail price of these cases is $80.00+ ??? I now know why. Inside the carton box I found a few leaflets and panflets, as well as a small block of tiny papers stapled together that explains how to take care of your leather.
I opened the box completely, and there it was, my new Vaja case, Rio-Red Aniline and White floater.

DESIGN
I could tell straight away this is a serious case. The leather is of extremely good quality, and has a strong, authentic smell.
Sticthing is precise and meticulous, in a slightly darker brown. The white floater is well padded, and softer than the rest of the leather. This also presents the Vaja metal logo, which gives the case the right touch of style without compromising the simplicity and beauty of design.

The back of the case is tough. Both the back and the front have a piece of carton which sustains the case.
As I open it for the first time, I notice, with a pleasant surprise, that the snap button is magnetic, and also feels quite secure.
The lining is made of soft leather, and only the internal part of the sides (very little material) is made of fabric instead of leather. On the top-internal part of the case are the SD slots, credit card slots, and money slot. These are also very soft and flexible, and differently from many leather cases, they are curved-finished. This obviously makes the case look more elegant, as well as makes it easier to actually take our SD cards out.
Right after I finally inserted my x50v in the case, I was extremely pleased to find out that the screen-alignment is essentially perfect, and the case is very tight.
Because of the tough resistano leather, the bottom parti s left uncovered. We could argue that this doesn’t provide total protection. However, on the other hand, this gives makes it possible to maintain the curved shape which makes our x50v so unique.

Perhaps one improvement that could be made is the tightness of the case on the TOP part. Because there is more leather than in other cases at the top, this makes the case more curved, and makes it a few millimiters bigger, which also creates a minor nuyance when using the headphones cut-out. I do believe though that this must have been a necessary compromised with this kind of leather.

I think it is pretty obvious that I was very impressed with the design.

FUNCTIONALITY
This is, I believe, a very important aspect of any case.
As metioned above, Vaja cases suceed in combinig design and quality, this includes functionality.
No essential cut outs are missing from the case, let us have a look:
As we can observe from the pictures below, the left side provides a cut for WIFI e RECORD buttons.
On the UPPER left side there is no leather, so we have complete access to the KEY LOCK and the STRAP.
The lower part provides us of course with a sync cut-out, and although it isn’t possible to sync through cradle, this is a compromise that ANY leather case which provides complete protection must face.
Although some people may not feel the need for it, I was very happy to see a cut-out at the back for SOFT-RESET.

The leather also covers the TOP of the PDA. This could be annoying for those who like to see the DELL and AXIM logo on our handheld. It doesn’t bother me personally. There is a small cut-out on the top left hand side, covered with a metal shield. This is a microphone protection which preserve the sensitivity of the microphone. Right next to it the SWITCH ON logo is actually embossed in the leather.
A very elegant curved finish gives visual access to the WIFI/BLUETOOTH LED.
There is of course also a headphones cut-out, which, because of the hard leather is not as smooth as it could be when the case is open (as mentioned above).

Generally there are NO features missing in terms of functionality.

CONCLUSIONS
Although I believe I do not need to repeat my opinions on this case, I will.
I think I can honestly say that the Vaja case has quickly become my favourite amongst the many cases I have tried and that it’s going to replace my current case for a good while.
