Gamebox Solitaires (English) |
|
Pubblicato domenica 24 luglio 2005 |
| | Have you ever been stuck in a train or bus station, waiting for that public vehicle to arrive, and felt that those 10 empty minutes would be absolutely hell to go through with nothing to do? And what can you REALLY do in those 10 mins...? Check your mail? Provided that there’s a WIFI hotspot, in 10 mis I wouldn’t be able to type in “HI, HOW ARE YOU”! Listen to music? Sure... but that’s not an active activity, and we still need to wait patiently... no, there’s only one thing that can save us from those tedious moments; SOLITAIRE. Many thanks to PDAMill for their cooperation and the material provided. |
| | How many times, in short periods of time I took out my fancy Axim x50v and thought :”And what am I gonna do now? Oh well... Solitaire it is then!” Unfortunately, after a couple of minutes, the absence of animation, graphical complexity, sounds effects, interesting colours... really bores me!
Luckily I have discovered PDAMill’s Gamebox Solitaire, which makes those moments as joyous as... well... as they could be.
There are two versions of Gamebox Solitaire, number one, and well... number 2. In this review, for convenience reasons, the screenshot on the left will always refer to Gamebox Solitaire 1, and the one on the right to GB2 (GB= Gamebox Solitaire) | The two versions, are really complementary to each other. |
Even though they are both very similar, there are some differences (the main one being that they have different games) which make it worth to install both on our PDA.
Let’s start with the main window. As soon as we launch the game, we get the initial window, where we can select our game. This has a convenient navigation panel on the left, a nice preview window on the right, and some settings. The design of this window changes slightly in the two versions, but its gists, atmosphere and contents are essentially the same
On the top left side we find three icons, which are pretty self-explanatory: Credits, and Settings. Settings allow us to change some game, graphic, and sound options. The settings that can be changed are pretty much the same in both versions, the only difference is that version 1 provides a “Sort cards in pile” options and version 2 provides an “EASY GAME” option.
| Both versions have pretty much the same options |
The left handed can even rotate the screen to their comfort.
We also find three functions (in different positions): - Preview - Description - Statistics These are also fairly self-explanatory. Preview lets us visualise the game we have selected before we start, “Description” explains the rules and aim of the game, and “Statistic” gives us an account of how many times we played overall, how many times we’ve won, lost, how many moves etc. These statistic can be easily erase with the RESET function.
Let’s now see what happens when we click on PLAY On the top, we find the following icons (in order from left to right): - Deal - Replay - Undo - Hint - Sound (on/off) - Music (on/off)
There is also a TIMER, to tell us how long we’ve been playing for (we wouldn’t want to miss that train), and the EXIT button. IMPLEMENTATION.Even though the sound effects are very effective and they make the game more pleasant, perhaps it would have been possible to further improve the game by adding even MORE different sounds. Apart from this though, the general score is VERY GOOD! This is definitely addictive, and a MUST HAVE for Solitaire lovers. Pro:- Very playble, lots of games - Good graphics - Animations and sound effects Cons:- Could use more sound effects - Resolution could be improved Prices and site for purchase:Gamebox Solitaire, and Gamebox Solitaire 2, are available for purchase on our e-store at a price of $14.95 (EU 12.38) Gamebox Solitaire
