Let’s now approach the second phase of installation, the step which will install TomTom Navigator 6 in our PDA.
The procedure is made extremely easy by the card containing the software and Italia-Plus map. This card is a 512Mb SD or miniSD.
The installing procedure is extremely easy, even my dad who doesn't have familiarity with these tech-tools has succeeded in starting software only following instructions guide.
The only action to do is to insert the card, tap on start and choose language of voice and other driving setup parameters
After this introduction phase you’ll arrive to the registration screen of Italia-Plus map, which contains also major European routes. It is in fact possible to set as destination point a foreign address avoiding program errors or supplementary maps for trip calculation.
Even registration step is automatically done, only activating Wi-Fi connection or connecting our PDA to a PC with internet access.
After this setup phase we have to set “home address”, to notice that the GPS receiver will be automatically detected without need of pairing the PDA with other procedures… this means 1000% compatibility. Here you are general information about 6.011 tested version. After starting home page, with base address already set, I have been surprised by sensibility of GPS receiver, which, inside my place close to the window, has immediately fixed 5 satellites.
I then tested and compared the same procedure with another GPS receiver, the RoyalTek 2010.
The previously immediate fix has been reached in 5 minutes, and the software has not automatically found the device, so I had to pair GPS and PDA setting a COM port for communication.

The graphic aspect of this version isn’t so far from previous version, even if some improvement can be noticed in colour tones and icons.
The real improvement is instead noticeable if we have a look at the map... not only Italy will be shown, but all Europe. This is made possible by uploaded images directly took from the satellite. These images can be easily changed or updated through Tom Tom Home
For sure the main improvement of this version is that it is possible to navigate throughout Europe with no need of changing map from one country to another one, as the provided map contains all major European routes.
To be sure of this important feature I tried to ask for a European town, as target I set Amsterdam... let’s see how the application behaves in such case.
